Grupa Azoty among members of the Business Council of the Polish Government’s Representative for the Organisation of the 2022 World Urban Forum in Katowice

In recognition of its achievements in pursuing sustainable development, Grupa Azoty has been invited to join the Informal Business Council of the Polish Government’s Representative for the Organisation of the 2022 World Urban Forum in Katowice. Representing Grupa Azoty on that body is Dr Grzegorz Kądzielawski, Vice President of its Management Board. The first Council meeting is already behind us.

‘Transforming our cities for a better urban future’ is the motto of the 11th edition of the World Urban Forum, to be held in Katowice between June 26th and June 30th. The event will be co-organised by the Polish Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy,  the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Municipal Office of Katowice. The strategic partner for cooperation with businesses is the United Nations Global Compact Network Poland.

Sustainable development is Grupa Azoty’s priority, pursued through initiatives seeking to further environmental protection, social good and responsible corporate governance. Initiatives previously undertaken in these areas will be included in Grupa Azoty’s ESG strategy, organised around five pre-defined strategic pillars: climate and the environment, sustainable products, sustainable supply chain, immediate environment and friendly and safe workplace. It is thanks to its impressive track record in sustainable development that Grupa Azoty has been selected to join the Business Council of the Polish Government’s Representative for the Organisation of the 2022 World Urban Forum in Katowice.

“Our membership of the Business Council, whose guidelines and proposals will make a valuable contribution to the World Urban Forum agenda, is an immense honour. As Grupa Azoty, we are keen to engage in projects aiming to foster and accelerate development, not only of business, but also of cities and regions. Last year we implemented the Group’s 2030 strategy, which is our response to the contemporary world’s challenges in environmental protection, society and security. I hope the experience we have amassed will be a helpful contribution to the Katowice Forum agenda,” says Dr Grzegorz Kądzielawski, Vice President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty S.A.

During the two-day Urban Forum hosted by the city of Katowice, representatives of national, regional and local governments, academics, business people, community leaders and urban planners will be looking for answers to questions related to the fostering and planning of a sustainable urban future and the role of local residents in the process.
