Grupa Azoty awarded title of Leader of Energy Transformation at the Polish Climate Congress

Grupa Azoty has been awarded the title of Leader of Energy Transformation 2024 in the category of Material Engineering, Nanotechnology. The company was recognized for its project "envifill® granulates - a family of polymers subject to organic recycling." The statuette is awarded by the Polish Climate Congress committee.

The competition organized by the Polish Climate Congress promotes the most innovative products, technologies, and services related to climate protection. Projects are evaluated based on their environmental impact, scalability, and innovation. The competition aims to create a platform for business-institutional cooperation to accelerate Poland's green transformation.

Grupa Azoty sees green transformation, energy efficiency, and innovation as very important, consistently implemented aspects. An example is the envifill® granulates project, for which we received the award. These are biodegradable polymers, innovative on a national scale and providing an alternative in certain applications to traditional plastics, said Dr. Marcin Witkowski, Corporate Director for ESG at Grupa Azoty S.A.

The line of biodegradable envifill® polymers was introduced into the company's portfolio in 2022. It was developed primarily for packaging applications or areas where post-consumer waste is not suitable for recycling or energy recovery.

The envifill® granulates are an innovative solution, and Grupa Azoty is the first producer of such granulates in Poland. The developed formulas are based on proprietary envifill® TPS material – a 100% plant-based polymer made from thermoplastic starch. The production of the granulates uses raw materials mainly from renewable sources, of natural origin, and minerals. The obtained certificates confirm the possibility of sending these polymers for organic recycling.
