Grupa Azoty is ready to assess the conformity of fertilizers with new EU requirements

Grupa Azoty has signed an agreement with Polskie Centrum Badań i Certyfikacji S.A. (PCBC) concerning assessment of conformity of EU fertilising products and supervision over the system ensuring quality of production at the Group companies manufacturing fertilizers. PCBC is the Polish notified body to assess the conformity of fertilising products under Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 on EU fertilising products.

Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 June 2019 lays down rules on the making available on the market of EU fertilising products and amends Regulations (EC) No 1069/2009 and (EC) No 1107/2009 and repeals Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003. The Regulation lays down rules on the making available on the market of EU fertilising products comprising organo-mineral fertilisers and other fertilising products, i.e., liming materials, soil improvers, growing media, plant biostimulants, as well as inhibitors.

The Regulation imposes on producers new obligations, which were analysed and prepared to be implemented at Grupa Azoty sufficiently in advance.

“At Grupa Azoty, we are consistently expanding our fertilising product portfolio in keeping with the principles of sustainable agriculture. We are among the leaders of the European fertilizer and chemical industry and our ambition is to be among those producers who are first to respond to the most recent challenging regulations, consistent with the principles of the European Green Deal. Cooperation with Polskie Centrum Badań i Certyfikacji S.A. is for us a natural step in this direction,” said Filip Grzegorczyk, Vice President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty S.A.

Under the signed framework agreement, PCBC will assess the conformity of the notified EU fertilising products and conduct audits to confirm the compliance of the system ensuring quality of production at the individual production plants.

“As Grupa Azoty, we are well placed to meet the EU requirements that will come into force as of July 16th 2022. This was made possible, among others, thanks to the efforts of the Group’s Corporate Team composed of AGRO experts from all our companies. As a Group, we are prepared for our fertilizers to be favourably assessed by the notified body, that is Polskie Centrum Badań i Certyfikacji S.A.,” said Zbigniew Paprocki, Member of the Management Board and CEO of Grupa Azoty S.A.

Polskie Centrum Badań i Certyfikacji S.A. appreciates that Grupa Azoty S.A., one of the largest fertilizer producers in Poland and Europe, has chosen PCBC S.A. to assess the conformity of its products.

“On behalf of the Management Board of PCBC S.A., as the notified body, we can ensure the participation of competent staff in executing processes in line with the approved conformity assessment procedures. I believe that also other Polish fertilizer producers will follow in the footsteps of the fertilizer industry leader, that is will cooperate with the notified body to comply with Regulation (EU) 2019/1009,” said Aleksandra Kostrzewa, President of the Management Board of Polskie Centrum Badań i Certyfikacji S.A.
