Investment programme for Tarnów
Having made a summary of capital expenditure incurred over the last five years at the Tarnów-based Company, Grupa Azoty S.A. is now working on an investment programme until 2020.

Since 2008, a total of PLN 550m has been spent on investment projects in Tarnów. Over the next few years, the planned budget of key CAPEX projects in Tarnów will be approximately PLN 0.5bn.

Currently, the most advanced project is the modernisation of the sulphuric acid plant, with a budget of PLN 63m, scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

“In the short term, the focus will also be on pro-environmental projects in the desulphurisation and denitrification of flue gas from the on-site CHP plant, thanks to which it will be possible to reduce sulphur and nitric oxides emissions into the atmosphere. Due to environmental requirements, we want to commence the projects next year, and finish them by 2016,” said Witold Szczypiński, Vice-President of Grupa Azoty S.A.

Moreover, an investment programme that involves further caprolactam processing within Grupa Azoty is also being developed. Currently, following changes in the polyamide market in China, the Company is working on a revised feasibility study for the polyamide project. This would allow us to optimise the engineering plastics portfolio throughout Grupa Azoty. The other major project in the feasibility study phase involves the mechanical granulation of ammonium nitrate-based fertilisers, which would considerably expand our product range. In the next few years, the Company will also be carrying out a number of smaller projects with shorter payback periods, such as a new high-temperature CO conversion catalyst.
