On September 3rd 2019, the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) launched a new index, WIG-ESG. It consists of companies listed in the WIG20 and mWIG40 indices, i.e. the blue chips of the WSE.

As in the case of other indices, the weights of companies in the index will depend on the number of free- float shares adjusted based on the ESG ranking and assessment of compliance with the Code of Best Practice for WSE Listed Companies 2016.

Also Grupa Azoty S.A. joined the new index.

The WSE has been promoting the highest ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) standards among listed companies for many years. So far, the WSE has been publishing the RESPECT Index, which has fulfilled its educational objectives over the 10 years of its existence. Until the end of 2019, the WSE will be simultaneously publishing both WIG-ESG and RESPECT indices, and from January 1st 2020 – only WIG-ESG.

Both institutional and individual investors are attaching increasing importance to responsible investment. A nine-fold increase in the share of this type of investments was recorded in the portfolios of individual investors: from 3.4% in 2013 to 30.7% in 2017.
